The app · in development

A compass that shows its working.

Instead of generic daily horoscopes, Pentao works with your own data, follows the rhythm of the year and stays private. This is what we’re planning for launch:

  • Understand, step by step

Your five-element profile, really calculated and explained in plain language. No canned texts, no fearmongering.

  • In step with the 24 terms

A short note on your chart about every 15 days, matched to the season of the year. No daily noise.

  • For you and your people

How your elements play together, as a card to share. For families: “What makes my child tick?” and the traditional conception calendar, clearly marked as just for fun.

  • Good days for plans

Moving, launching, an important talk: days chosen by the Chinese calendar tradition, straight into your calendar.

  • Your chart as art

Your elements become a personal design for your lock screen and widget.

  • Private and fair

Birth data stays on your device. Core features free, more with a yearly subscription, no weekly plans.

Questions

Good to know

Is this fortune-telling?

No. BaZi is a centuries-old Chinese tradition, not a scientific method. Pentao shows you what the tradition reads in your birth chart and invites reflection. Please don’t base decisions about health, money or relationships on it.

How exactly does Pentao calculate?

The year begins at Lichun, the start of spring around 4 February, not at Chinese New Year. Months change at twelve of the 24 solar terms; the day follows the sixty-day cycle, with the day changing at 11 pm. We use the local time at the place of birth without converting to true solar time. The sun’s position is calculated astronomically to within about a quarter of an hour; if your birth falls within about an hour of a month change, the calculator tells you.

What happens to my data?

The calculator runs only in your browser; we don’t send your birth details anywhere. For the waitlist we store your email address on our server in Germany for at most twelve months. If you unsubscribe, we delete it immediately.

What will Pentao cost?

The birth chart and core features are meant to stay free. For partner cards, good days and the yearly reading we’re planning a yearly subscription. We’ll announce the price at launch.

When is the app coming?

We’re aiming to launch before Chinese New Year on 6 February 2027, for iPhone and Android. People on the waitlist hear first.
